Schoenhut Circus Figures

Highlighting the offered decorations and collectables in the September auction is this group of twelve Schoenhut circus figures. The delightful toys are believed to be circa 1910 and include depictions of Buffalo Bill, a rhinoceros, a zebra, a polar bear, a giraffe, two clowns, two donkeys and two horses, one surmounted by a lady. Vintage Schoenhut toys have found a niche collector following and the company continues to earn awards and accolades for their inspiring and educational toys. These joyous pieces of classic American toy craftsmanship are being offered at an auction estimate of $800-1,200.

Pair of Jade, 14K Yellow Gold Earrings

Many remarkable jade lots are a part of the June Jewelry Sale, but this pair of jadeite drop earrings prove to be a unique selection of quality. Each earring features a jadeite plaque of exceptional translucency and rich color, measuring approximately 40 x 15 x 2 mm. Each plaque bears a carving of a delightful squirrel crawling amongst grape bunches and leaves. The jadeite in these earrings is known to be over 40 years old and impressively remains in pristine condition. The whimsical earrings will be offered at an estimate of $2,000-3,000.

1.70 ct Old European Cut Diamond, Platinum Ring

Also available in the Michaan's Auctions June Jewelry Sale is a ring featuring an old European-cut diamond weighing approximately 1.70 carats. The ring is fashioned in an Art Deco style that displays streamlined curves as well as a beautiful angularity. The center stone is a diamond of true quality, exhibiting wonderful color and clarity. The band is accented by six baguette-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 0.30 carats. Sixteen single-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 0.15 carats complete the platinum ring, estimated at $6,000-9,000.

Jehan Georges Vibert (French 1840-1902) "The Cardinal"

French artist Jehan Georges Vibert's paintings held quite a prominent following during his career. John Jacob Astor IV and William Vanderbilt included his pieces in their collections and heiress May Louise Maytag amassed a large amount of his paintings on behalf of the then Bishop of Miami, Coleman Carroll. The Maytag accumulation was eventually donated to St. John Vianney College in Miami. "The Cardinal" is being offered at an estimate of $15,000-25,000 and depicts a Roman Catholic figure on a garden stroll. The lot includes an informative article of Vibert written by Bill Rau from the "Fine Art Connoisseur," April 2011.

An Imperial Yellow 'Lotus Flower' Glass Bowl

This imperial yellow 'lotus flower' bowl is being offered in the June Fine Asian Works of Art Auction as lot 8076 with an estimate of $4,000-6,000. This brilliantly hued bowl features layers of incised lotus petals cradled by an undulating lotus leaf rising from the foot of the bowl. The piece is also accompanied by a finely carved wood stand depicting a lotus pond. The lotus is regarded as an auspicious symbol, carrying strong significance in the Asian culture and Buddhism. When this flower, recognized as one of the Eight Sacred Symbols, is used in Buddhist art, the representation conveys a message of purity.

Pair of Victorian Pearl, Enamel, 14K Yellow Gold Bangle Bracelets

From quite an interesting provenance is a pair of Victorian cuff bracelets at an estimate of $4,000-6,000. The bracelets will be offered in the June Jewelry Sale and are part of a jewelry suite from the collection of Anna McKenna Tillman. Each hinged bangle features seven pearls in the form of a cross accented by black enamel. Scroll motifs are fashioned throughout the cuffs as well which are accompanied by a fitted box. Also noteworthy is a painting showing Anna wearing the bracelets, offered in the fine art sale held on the 9th of June.

Diamond, Opal Doublet, Multi-stone, 14K Yellow Gold Pendant-Necklace

A prominent jewelry selection in September lies in an omega necklace and Gary Walby pendant-brooch lot. A 14k yellow gold omega necklace is accompanied by a pendant-brooch featuring opal, amethyst, iolite, tourmaline, citrine and diamonds. The inlaid stones are set in a graphic, 14k yellow gold mounting. The colored stones are then arranged in a prismatic fashion, flanked by opal and accented by diamonds. The piece bears the hallmark of jewelry artisan Gary Walby. Walby has garnered numerous awards and a strong celebrity following during his career, having designed pieces for Liberace and Dean Martin. The jewelry will be offered at an estimate of $1,200-1,500.

Meissen Porcelain Figure of a Bird & Meissen Porcelain Tray with Painted Figures

From the estate collection of a Hollywood socialite and professional dancer is a selection of collectible Meissen pieces. A lovely Meissen porcelain figure of a bird will be sold in August at an estimate of $1,000-1,500. Another Meissen offering is found in a decorative tray. The tray is fashioned with a bucolic scene of an English gent strolling with a fair maiden. A young mother tending to her child sit to the side of the pathway as well. The border of the tray is beautifully rendered in cobalt blue and gold leaf scrollwork, offered at an estimate of $800-1,200.

Jean Vendome Diamond, Amethyst, Crystal, Sterling Silver, 18K Yellow Gold Necklace

Michaan's Auctions is pleased to present an amethyst, crystal and stalactite Jean Vendome necklace to be offered in the June Jewelry Sale. The piece is believed to be from the 1960s and will be sold with an estimate of $1,500-2,000. Upon one side is a line of eight natural, graduating amethyst crystals. The other side is fashioned with seven amethyst slabs. Two carved amethyst flowers that each display a diamond finish the succession of slabs, echoing the theme beautifully. The piece is signed J. Vendome and is accompanied by a handmade, fitted box.

Hermann Herzog (American 1832-1932) "Farallon Islands, Pacific Coast"

Hermann Herzog's "Farallon Islands, Pacific Coast" is a tranquil and beautifully rendered oil painting. Lovely in its understated subtlety, Herzog masterfully utilized muted tones in a realist style. Seabirds in flight soar above the ocean scene of crashing waves; a depiction perfect in its simplicity. A number of prominent American and European museums now include Herzog's work as part of their collections and Michaan's is honored to have the painting available for its June Fine Sale. The piece is a timeless example of Herzog's artistry and technique, measuring 22 by 29 inches. "Farallon Islands, Pacific Coast" is estimated at $20,000-30,000.
