The bowl is adorned on the exterior with four roundels, alternating between depictions of birds and flowers, as well as poetic inscriptions. These are all reserved on a deep blue incised ground with floral and bamboo leaf motifs. The recessed base of the bowl bears a six-character apocryphal Qianlong mark in underglazed copper red.
