hand-colored engraving,
(approximate dimensions - sight: 23-1/4 x 35-1/2 inches)
engraved by J. Vendramini, printed by J. Mathews, London, published 1st January 1802.
Condition: Sheet toned, slight wrinkles, at lower margin: abrasions and loss to sheet, a few areas of stain.
Notes: Frame has light wear, approximate dimensions - framed: 34-3/4 x 46-1/4 inches. Bio: Artist, author, and traveler, his early studies were at the Royal Academy. Fairly quickly he received a number of church commissions, leading to other works. His particular interest was the depiction of battle scenes, which continued to be exhibited at the Royal Academy. Having a strong interest in traveling and depicting what he encountered, he traveled to Russia and was appointed as historic painter to Tsar Alexander of Russia. Travels to Finland, Sweden and beyond resulted in his works appearing in books related to both world and military history.
