Circa 1865.
After the original sculpture by Charles Bell Birch, R.A. (1832-1893). The nude nymph seated on a tree stump embellished with ferns and ivies, caressing the garlanded doe to her left side, while the faun on her lap licks her ring finger. All atop a cylindrical base. Later decorated with a band of gilt decoration.
The rear base of the sculpture incised C. B. Birch. Sc. 1866.
19 H., 8 3/4 Diameter.
The full size version was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1867 and was illustrated in the Art Journal in 1869. Probably done for the Art Union of London.
One foliate front has broken off from the base.
