Comprising: A Red Anchor Period silver-shaped oval platter painted in polychrome enamels in the atelier of James Giles in vivid fashion with birds within extensive foliage a gold anchor plate with scalloped and pleat moulded rim, painted with birds to the rim and flower sprays to the face in polychrome enamels a Gotzkowsky-moulded rim soup plate painted sparsely with flowers and insects and a caudle cup underplate, painted with floral sprays.
Iron-red enamelled anchor to platter underside gold enamelled anchor to plate underside. Both of the other items have three stilts and the caudle underplate has an iron-red T near footrim.
The platter 11 1/2 W. x 9 D. The plates 9 1/2 Diameter and 8 3/4 Diameter, respectively. The underplate 6 3/8 Diameter.
Provenance: Property from the Estate of Arthur Thomson, San Francisco, CA.
Condition: All of the articles have typical have minor wear, dots of frit and light scratches to enamels. The platter and Gotzkowsky-moulded rim soup plate ring true. The plate with birds at the rim has a crawling firing / hairline crack from the rim, into the cavetto moulding, and back out to the rim again. There is a slight nick to the rim at the beginning of the crack, which is very hard to see on the front of the dish. 1/16 shallow chip to caudle stand. Visible wear to face..
