Circa 1880 -1900.
Carved in the Irish Taste, with highly carved splats, arms and legs. The backs with pierced splats terminating in shells to crest rail, flanked by raised, outswept arms, terminating in lateral curled birds heads. Knees carved with stylized foliate designs terminating in ribbing, over cabriole legs terminating in claw and ball feet. The seats with woven Flemish tapestry-style fabric featuring standing figure among foliate and animal designs.
Approximate dimensions: 40 1/2 H. x 33 W. ( 23 W., the seat) x 24 1/2 D. Seat height: 21 H., including upholstery..
Provenance: The Estate of Evert B. Person.
Condition: Short cracks to splat, knicks to crest rails, 1 3/4 L. shallow crack and chip to front right side of center, to one chair seat. Some fading to backs. Various typical surface wear, light scratches throughout.
