Label verso upper stretcher bar: It is authenticated by contemporary members of the family who saw the work done, that this portrait of Mrs. A.W. Deforest (nee Bennet), was painted by Samuel Finley Breese Morse, inventor of the electric telegraph and an artist of note
Condition: In overall good condition. Canvas has been relined, some areas of missing paint, craqulure throughout. When examined under black light no major areas of in painting or restoration.
