Chris Aire Chronograph Wristwatch
This Chris Aire timepiece highlights over 125 jewelry lots in July. Aire is largely known as a custom jeweler and exotic watch maker to some of the most prominent names in popular American culture. His clients include hip hop mogul Jay Z and singers Rihanna and Celine Dion, as well as rapper 50 Cent. His jewelry pieces have been worn by A-list celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Muhammad Ali, Halle Berry, Will Smith and Ellen DeGeneres. This timepiece for auction is a blackened steel chronograph wristwatch, to be sold at an estimate of $4,000-6,000.
Carnelian, Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, 14K Yellow Gold Bracelet
At the forefront of the June jewelry offerings is a carnelian, lapis lazuli, turquoise and 14k yellow gold bracelet. The bracelet is a wonderfully crafted, contemporary fashion piece of angular design containing geometric stones. It features eight carnelian tablets alongside sixteen lapis lazuli and eight turquoise slices, all set in a 14k yellow gold bangle. The finished look is one of a chic, modern, fashion-forward aesthetic, certain to delight bidders. The contemporary bracelet will be sold in the monthly estate sale at an estimate of $800-900.
William Trost Richards (American 1833-1905) "David's Headlands Wales"
William Trost Richards "David's Headlands Wales" will be offered in August at an estimate of $4,000-6,000. The oil painting was gifted to the present owner by M.J. & A.E. van Loben Sels who donated 250 works of art by Richards to the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University in 1992. Upon Richards' death, the artworks in his studio were divided among his five children. This van Loben Sels collection of Richard pieces derived from inherited works from the artist's son. The piece's fine provenance as well as the celebrated artist is almost certain to draw strong bidder interest.
A Vibrant Turquoise-Blue Bottle Vase
This beautifully vibrant bottle vase bears the four-character Qianlong mark on its base. The turquoise-blue hue is created in part by multiple layers of varying shades of blue glass set upon one another. The effect creates a pure and clean translucence, causing a remarkably beautiful effect. The bottle is quite graceful in its globular form and tall cylindrical neck, with the entire piece measuring an approximate 8 1/2 inches in height. The vase will be offered in the June Fine Asian Works of Art Auction as lot 8080 with an estimate of $13,000-18,000.
A Rare 'Snowstorm' and Multicolor Tiered Glass Vase
Sure to peak strong collector interest is a rare 'snowstorm' multicolored, tiered glass vase. The lower body of the baluster form is speckled with aubergine, turquoise and green glass. A Daoguang reign mark is evident upon the base and the piece measures just slightly over 8 inches in height. It is quite similar to a choice vase held in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing. Although not identical, it is noteworthy that many striking, comparable characteristics parallel the two pieces. The vase will be offered in the June Fine Asian Works of Art Auction as lot 8081 with an estimate of $3,000-5,000.
Carrera Y Carrera 18K Yellow Gold Necklace
This Carrera Y Carrera 18 karat yellow gold equine necklace highlights August jewelry offerings. The cleverly fashioned links are composed of interspersed depictions of horse heads forming an 18 inch necklace, culminating in a hefty total weight of 47.7 pennyweights. Largely considered one of the most prestigious jewelry brands in the world, the firm boasts what is understood to be one of the most skilled jewelry workshops in existence. Carrera Y Carrera has been commissioned to make jewelry pieces for the Spanish Royal Family as well as the Spanish government. The Carrera Y Carrera equine necklace will be sold at auction at an estimate of $2,500-3,500.
Wolf von dem Bussche (German b.1934) "N.Y., N.Y."
Wolf von dem Bussche began his career as a painter, but despite the positive response to his work he was never completely fulfilled by the medium. As a result, he made the transition to photography. His sensibilities as a painter remain evident in his photographs as he continued to address thematic issues that interested him in his former career. Michaan's has a portfolio of twelve silver gelatin prints depicting the World Trade Center and Washington Square for auction in the June Fine Sale. The collection is being offered at $10,000-15,000 and provides a reflective tribute to some of von dem Bussche's most compelling work.
William John Wittemore (American 1860-1955) "John Dickerson Farm, 1901"
Simplistic in its beauty is William John Whittemore's "John Dickerson Farm, 1901" estimated at$4,000-6,000 in the June Fine sale. The rural scene of barns amongst a country landscape is played out in shades of rust tones, conveying a crisp, autumn feel to the piece. Trees echoing the color theme are scattered about the property and a cloudless, pale blue sky resides above. A gate is seen traveling across the middle of the canvas that separates the grounds from the buildings. Whittemore's painting career spanned an impressive sixty-five years. He also studied under renowned teacher J.J. Benjamin Constant and Jules Joseph Le Febrve at the Academie Julian.
Tito Conti (Italian 1842-1924) "The Card Players, 1879"
A jovial scene is seen in Tito Conti's "The Card Players, 1879." The oil is from a private Wisconsin collector and depicts three jaunty men enjoying a game of cards and the local spirits. A woman is seen entering the room as well, bringing some food to the festivities. Conti's expert attention to detail, atmosphere and color vividly brings the piece to life. He is currently considered a master of the Italian School and one of Italy's most important 19th century figure painters. "The Card Players, 1879" will be offered in the September Estate Auction at an estimate of $2,000-4,000.
Shakudo, 10K yellow gold jewelry suite
This shaduko suite will be offered in August, consisting of a brooch and pair of earrings. The set is made of shaduko plaques depicting birds in a nature setting. Tassel motifs adorn the plaques, all set in 10k yellow gold. Shaduko is a traditional Japanese surface colored copper alloy that has been made since the 15th century. Generally, shaduko contains a mixture of 75-98% copper with the remaining component being gold, although traces of other metals can be present. The suite will be sold at an estimate of $1,500-1,800.
