Condition: Surface dust/dirt, aging crack, craquelure, frame abrasions, visible inpaint under UV light dirt pocket and keys verso.
Notes: Frame has wear, approximate dimensions - framed: 19-3/8 x 23-1/4 inches. Bio: Norwegian born, impressionist and tonalist artist who created landscape and coastal views of California. Originally immigrating to the US and living in the northeastern area of the US, he moves to San Francisco. A self-taught painter except for a brief study in the galleries of Paris in 1908. Afterwards he returns to the US where he produces hundreds of landscape/coastal views which are exhibited in local galleries. He leaves San Francisco in 1930. A letter in the collection of The Oakland Museum gives his date of death as 1955, but no location is provided. Exhibition history includes The Mechanics Institute of San Francisco in 1987, The San Francisco Art Association,1908-12, The Alaska-Yukon Exposition, Seattle, 1909, The Oakland Museum, as well as The DeYoung Museum.
