signed lower left titled and named written on stretcher bar and on label verso.
Condition: Surface dust/dirt, craquelure, slight abrasions, no visible inpaint under UV light dirt pockets and no keys verso.
Notes: Frame show moderate t wear, approximate dimensions - framed: 21-3/4 x 27-7/8 inches. Bio: After studying at the Minneapolis School of Art, the artist moves to NY to attend the Art Students League, studying with Kenneth Hayes Miller who came to be known as the leader of the 14th Street School of Artists which promoted the social realist movement. In NY she meets her husband, artist Arnold Blanch and they move to the artists community of Woodstock, NY. In 1930, they move to San Francisco to accept a teaching position where they befriend artists Frida Kahlo Diego Rivera. Frida and Lucile would frequently paint together as they both maintained studios in the same building. They also traveled together to Mexico. Returning to NY, Lucile is awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for painting and lithography in 1933. Her work is exhibited at The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and The Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC, among others. She was heavily involved with the WPA Art Mural Program, completing murals in Florida, Virginia, Kentucky and Mississippi. Lucile completed works having traveling circus /carnival themes periodically throughout the late 20s and into the 50s. A 1934 artwork depicting acrobats is in the collection of The Whitney Museum of American Art. Her work is also in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
